Over my kitchen sink there are 3 light fixtures. One bulb is out and on
that fixture there appears to be some brown substance. It is sticky. I wonder if the fixture is toast? Thanks, Ernie 83PT40 in Texas-- would this be covered under warranty from the previous owner? |

Ernie.... First off, the fixture is certainly NOT toast. Toast is
what you get when bread is heated to elevated temperatures and left exposed to this heat for several moments. If it were toast..... it would have "popped up" by now. As for the residue you found... I would expect that it is probably some sort of brown, sticky substance ! Also... as far as being covered by warranty.... Absolutely ! |

Ernie I have the same thing on 6 of my lights. The company "potted" the
starter with some kind of brownish substance which is starting to liquify and runs out. Dont let it get on your upholstery or you wont get it out. I would suggest you not use the light unless you want it to start dripping. tom 1982 FC35 Vernon Center,NY In the beautiful Mohawk Valley At 07:04 PM 4/20/2005 +0000, you wrote: >Over my kitchen sink there are 3 light fixtures. Ernie,
If the substance has a distinctively phenolic odor, it likely is from a florescent ballast, or possibly a starter if old enough fixture, that has "fried" itself. I'd be prepared to replace the ballast or the entire fixture, depending upon the cost of either. Newer model fixtures do have more efficient lighting characteristics, which helps to justify that route if you wish. John Suter --- Ernest Ekberg > > Over my kitchen sink there are 3 light fixtures. Ernie,
Contact Stephen Britles, fourm member, and buy the ballasts from him. I bought 8 of them and so far have gotten 5 replaced. The fixtures put out bright light now. Also, bulbs if you need them, are less than $2.00 each in quantity of 24 from http://www.bulbman.com. Curt Sprenger 1987 PT38 Anaheim, Ca. First thing I would check is the input voltage at the Ballast. All but one
of mine started working very well after I reworked most of the connections. - Chuck Wheeler - 82 FC31 - Fort Worth, TX -----Original Message----- From: WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com [mailto:WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com]On Behalf Of Ernest Ekberg Sent: Wednesday, April 20, 2005 2:04 PM To: WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com Subject: [WanderlodgeForum] Fluorescent fixture Over my kitchen sink there are 3 light fixtures.
