Generator Won't Start?
Curt:
Didn't mean to sound like disagreeing. Just pointing out that a diesel engine will run indefinitely once started. If it hasn't started yet there must be some weird gremlin in the thing. There are not many things in my system that will prevent the engine from starting. Hope it gets going. Leroy, Agreed. That is what I'm pointing out. It could be electrical issues are keeping solenoids (or something else) from performing as required. Another thought is getting Mike's unit to a test station will hopefully support Mike having a working generator when he leaves on his trip in less than two weeks. If we were closer we could join in the search for the problem(s). The shop spent about an hour to test our gen. system, $85.00, cheap for this part of the country. Generator Won't Start?
Curt:
Just as I sent the e-mail one other thing came to mind. Glow plugs. It would be unusual if they failed abruptly but anything can happen. These 4 cylinder diesel engines are very difficult to start without glow plugs operating properly. Generator Won't Start?
Should go here, past my bed time for sure.
################################################################# Hey Mike!, this thread goes back a long ways to Message #12391 when you said you were heading to Montana in 2 weeks. Do you have that generator running yet? We don't want you to miss the bus, it's yours! And...we hate to see you heading West without the air, been there, done that. Even with the windows open you can get little air. Give a report on what you have found and done, surely one of us here have had a similiar situation. We have all the answers but slap outta questions. You said the "Light" did not come on when you pressed the switch. Have you checked the fuses? Have you measure any voltages? Generator Won't Start?
Leroy,
I didn't read it as you were disagreeing. You are right about diesels once started. The one in question needs that start. Too bad we aren't closer to take a look. My thought was to get it to a shop early and not interfere with his vacation. I had BIG troubles with our gen. set last year. I planned to leave on vacation in June...got underway in September. It took that long to get the unit R&R twice and working again...very long story...$$$ too. Gen Set Coolant Project - Yesterday & today I installed the fan housing & radiator, and all new hoses. The hoses were fun. The lesson learned is the old hoses are exactly the right length. The new hoses fit fine after I cut them back to be the same length. I'm waiting on the temperature sender and and the high temp. sensor to arrive. Should have this all buttoned up and working early next week. You said the hoses are high priced...right! They cost nearly $400.00. That comes out to about $16.00/ft. Curt Sprenger 1987 PT38, Anaheim Hills, Calif. Leroy Eckert wrote: > Curt: > > Didn't mean to sound like disagreeing. Generator Won't Start?
Curt: Sounds like you are getting there on your generator. You
will be very happy you did the upgrade. It should provide you with long term service. Mine works great since I did all of the deferred maintenance. Today I put a granite countertop and a Oceana hand made glass sink in our vanity. Little things really do count. Looks fabulous. I hope that generator started. Anyone heard? While I was installing the top I was searching for electrical reason and wondered if the following could happen. There are 4 start stop switches for the generator on my coach, each spring loaded to neutral position Is it possible that one of the switches is loaded in the stop position? Would this cause the generator not to start? I do not know and am afraid to pull off a test for fear that I may not like the result if something goes wrong. Leroy,
Please send me picture too. The stainless looks great! Nice work! Put more pictures out on the forum so we can see more detail. Generator Won't Start?
Leroy,
Where is Mike? Interesting thought..."There are 4 start stop switches for the generator on my coach, each spring loaded to neutral position Is it possible that one of the switches is loaded in the stop position? Would this cause the generator not to start? I do not know and am afraid to pull off a test for fear that I may not like the result if something goes wrong." I don't know the answer and like you don't care to experiment. Would removing each switch and testing them provide the answer? I'd have to spend some time thinking about how to test the switches. Someone will respond and and let us know. Curt Sprenger 1987 PT38, Anaheim Hills, Calif. |

Generator Won't Start?
Hey guys!
Been busy at work this week. I have not had a chance to look at the Gen issue yet, will go get the bird in the morning and trouble (with my limited electrical knowledge) It has fresh plugs (2 months old) but I will check, I will also check the fuse in the control panel but I replaced that 2 months ago also... like I said, I started it 10 times in 2 days after I installed the disconnect switch. A week later- NOTHING! I will update tomorrow morning around 10am. If I can't get it going by Sunday night I will take it to a shop (we leave Friday afternoon for a 4,000 mile roundtrip drive to Big Fork,Mt) Thanks for thinking about me mike 80FC33 Taylor Mill, Ky. --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "one_dusty_hoot" > > Should go here, past my bed time for sure. > ################################################################# > Hey Mike!, this thread goes back a long ways to Message #12391 when > you said you were heading to Montana in 2 weeks. Generator Won't Start?
-Mike: Well, I had my wife pull the invoice for the sink, dated
3/02/2005. It took me awhile to get it in the coach. I really do have a job and I am tired of it. Anyway, the company name is Doug Johnson & Associates, Inc. 1387 Shotgun Road, Sunrise FL. Telephone 954-423-2250, http://www.dougstubs.com. I used Oceanna blue reflections. It looks 3 inches deep. Absolutely beautiful. There are other colors. I understand there are clones out there now but I have not seen the quality. You will need to purchase a pop up sink drain, the one you activate with you finger at the bottom of the sink. The sink is only 3/8 thick. The same company can help you with that. The granite top 3cm, in this case Jurassic Green, with 1/2 bull nose can be fabricated by any good granite fab shop. Be certain that they install it with silicone to keep it from moving. Plumbing retro was no problem. I used 3/8 soft copper available at any good hardware store. I used flared connections. I will take pictures this weekend of the upgrade. We are leaving for Daytona on Tuesday morning and will not be back until Sunday. I will post the pics after we get back. Gotta take the grandkids to the race. I love my ol Bird Leroy Eckert 1990 WB-40 Niceville, FL -- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "mbulriss" <mbulriss@...> wrote: > > > Leroy Eckert worte: > >Today I put a granite countertop and a Oceana hand made > >glass sink in our vanity.
