Rear View Camera Replacement
Has anyone replaced the black & white Sony rear view camera and
monitor? Sony uses a 4 conductor cable with a brand specific "mini- din" connector. So far, the only color system that I've found that can use the existing cable is a Voyager LCD system. The supplier has adapters to connect the power, video and audio signals to the existing sony cable. Side cameras are available if wanted. The only problem I can foresee is that the night vision LED's would reflect off the glass "camera window". Maybe these can be turned off or relocated? My Sony B&W is still working so I am not in a hurry but it is getting tired and I am not looking forward to snaking a new cable from the rear to under the dash. Wireless is not an option. Any ideas? Thanks!! Rich D. '99LXi43' CT |

Rear View Camera Replacement
From a month or two ago on the BB BMC site:
On my backup camera monitor (model Sony SSM-721AMR), it scrolls very fast vertically when cold, stabilizes to a good picture when "warmed" for over 2 hours. Sunday night after 9PM I emailed a question to RVCAMS whether I should suspect the camera or the monitor. 45 minutes later Tim emailed me back with troubleshooting advice, that allowed me to determine it is the camera failing. Tonight I ordered a replacement camera on-line from RVCAMS. Original was Sony SSC520AM, replacement is Sony SSM530AM. I received confirmation automatically within several minutes, and Tim sent me a personal email within 45 minutes to verify if I need reversing or non-reversing camera. (my monitor is reversing, so the camera requirement is non reversing). So on two nights back to back I had emails back from Tim within 45 minutes -- after business hours. http://www.rvcams.com provided excellent service on this particular circumstance. ------------ Rich, I had very good service via email from these guys. Email them your specifics, and see if they can hook you up. --------- Dan 94 BB BMC 37' NM --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "g_man1146" wrote: > > Has anyone replaced the black & white Sony rear view camera and > monitor? I did not. I built my own system.
For info, Stephen's sealed side camera connectors are S-Video 4 conductor connectors plus ground.. I purchased one for the right side of my coach. Pin 2 and 3 are not used. Adapters are available at Radio Shack. I'll make my own harness to my New RH LCD using the following components. S-Video Plug-278-451 S-Video Coupler-278-455 If you have audio, that is another issue. I would think that soldering wires to the 4 pin mini-DIN Sony connectors would be compatable with S-Video. It says 4 pin DIN to 4 Pin DIN on the back of the Radio Shack package. Ohm out the wires and solder together. I'm no rocket scientist but mine is working. The other issue would be do you have split screen capability. Personally, I used two 3.5 high resolution LCD's. I used existing cables with adapters. Picture is great, no LED's to worry about. Just what I did. Steven, the check is in the mail. Dan, do you think it is worth going color???and if so could you get a
color camera now and use the B&W monitor until a future upgrade. My system has like probs sometimes and it seems not to be prompted by any particular event????? I like to keep the cam on to look at the toad. RobbieRob brags about Tim from RV Cams and I just assumed he got a cut. Rob gave me a good tip to check the alignment of the wheels on the toad. I now tie a white ribbon around the top of the centered steering wheel and I can watch it spin when I turn and watch it recenter when I drive straight. Rear View Camera Replacement
Greg,
I needed fast and simple before a short notice road trip. Cost was not so much the issue, immediate resolution was the issue in this case. The camera stays on anytime the coach moves to monitor the toad and everything behind us. Rv Cams was not cheap, but super fast and helpfull. I have no dog in the hunt, no cut, no interest in RV Cams financially. I personally don't care about color, but others might. The new cam 100 percent solved my previous vertical (cold system) scroll on a 2 week trip. Turn it on, rock solid and sharp pic, from on to off, both day and night.
