Aqua-Hot spewed excessive white smoke
My coach had been sitting for several weeks when I fired up the
aqua-hot and a cloud of white smoke started spewing from the exhaust. It was so much that neighboring campers banged on my door to see if the coach was on fire and we needed to evacuate.I had experienced white smoke emissions before, but it cleared up within the first cycle. This time, after cycling several times, the smoke finally cleared and it ran without any smoke emitting from the exhaust. Opinions- water in the fuel? need new filter? need to drain fuel filter periodically? all of the above? I did not investigate, but is the fuel filter drainable? Also, is it difficult to replace? Thanks for your help in advance! Wayne '99 LX Charlotte, NC |

Aqua-Hot spewed excessive white smoke
Hi Wayne,
Before doing anything else, perform the annual service which consists of a nozzle and filter change, burner cleaning and inspection. There are detailed instructions in your manual or in .pdf format on Vehicle Systems website. This should be done each year. Also check that the air intake did not get moved or blocked. You should see a red paint dot where the factort set it. (This is under the burner assembly.) Inspect the photo eye for cracks or carbon buildup and replace if necessary. Also be sure the ignition points are adjusted properly, there is a guage screwed to the outsine of the burner. Before reinserting the re-assembled burner be sure the photo disk assembly floats freely in its mount. All of this is explained in the service manual which has good photos too. Sounds like more of a job than it is. If that does not cure the smoke problem, you'll have to take it to an AquaHot or Webasto shop. BTW, many large boatyards do AquaHot service. Also check for fuel leaks when you disassemble the unit. There was a recall on leaking fuelpumps. Rich D.
