Air Brakes - Drain Sound

I noticed that most other 'birds air brakes make that "pssshhh' air
release sound every few seconds while idling. Mine does not. I went
under the old bird, and found a "Bendix" device under my wet tank. I
removed it, disassembled it, and cleaned well, and re-assembled it. I
have yet to try starting the old bird to see if this fixed it.
(radiator out being soldered) Is this the device that does that? On
the unit it says "push pin to manually drain" Also do you know if
there is a air drier? If so, where would it be located? I would like
to change the filters, ect.

My 81FC31 did not have an air dryer. I did however add a spitter valve to the
bottom of the service air tank. It sounds like someone has added a spitter
valve to yours. It comes on when the compressor starts and again when the
compressor stops. All 3 air tanks had pull wires to manually drain the water
build-up.

Thank you all for your info and everyone who responded.



I have learned that the device responsible for that noise is an Air Dryer,
which I do not have.



I will look into getting one- although the system has worked well all this
time without it- However with age of everything, I feel that it wouldn't
hurt.

I will look for one reasonably priced- A Bendix AD-9.
