Need new tires for drapery motors 89 WB pt40
We are having some problems with the drive wheel on the drapery motors on the
front of the coach. Units are original controlers made by Lightwood Mfg,
Clackamas, OR. Tried to locate them on internet and it appears that the company
has been bought out. At the suggestion of other members on one of the sites we
ordered tires from Kirsch dealer, but found that the new tires are too small for
our rollers. NowI am sure that we are not the only ones to have to have similar
experience. Does anyone have a source of new tire for these units. The drive
tire has an inside diameter of 11/16". The tires I received are 5/8"I.D. Kirsch
tires are also very thick, while the old tires are only about 1/8" thick and
deeply groved causing the cords to slip.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

In lieu of purchasing new drive wheels, try switching one of
the 'idler' wheels to the driver position. Another thought is to
replace the traverse rod cord...available at your local Ace Hardware,
part number 509480 (from Ace Hardware google search). Stay away from
the polyester cords which IMO are too slick and lack the desired
traction capabilities. We felt so smart when we found the cotton
cord at Ace Hardware in Webster, WI after finding other cords that
seemed 'too slick', 'too loosely woven' or were incorrect diameter.

The cord on our 1989 FC powered drapes severed and after replacing
cord, the drapes work properly. The old cord was worn thin in the
area that got cycled the most.

I bought drape tires from Somfy Systems in February, 2005. 800 637-6639,
$16.17/set. They were what was needed and they are still working today.

RE: Need new tires for drapery motors 89 WB pt40
Thanks for all the advice about the Lightwood drapery motors. Still haven't found any but I will continue to look. I wish the ones I have were repairable but without the parts, it's not possible. What's really frustrating is that I do have some new tires that I bought a long time ago.

If you decide to stop using your Lightwood motor, I would be interested in buying it. I still have some tires that I bought many years ago.
