TOAD & HOOKUP
A bit of confusion about Toads.
Best, of course, to fllow the makers advice.(Duh)! 4X4s have another item. That is the Transfer Case. My Auto Trans Jeep should not be towed, but with the transfer case in Neutral, I usually leave the Transmission in "Park". Of course I have a CJ7 with the Dana 300 T-Case which still should not be towed, so I equipped it with the WARN rear axel, with lockout hubs. With all 4 wheels unlocked, it rolls right along. Those with the chain driven (NP241) T-Case (Wranglers) can be towed with the T-Case in Neutral, as they will self lube. Not sure about other Jeeps, (Cherokees, Libbys or the Commander). A couple of years ago, I had the steering wheel off to fix the turn signals. It was also an easy job to remove the steering wheel lock, so now I dont have to remember to leave the key on. I mounted a second lamp socket inside the tail lights (plenty of room in a CJ), and put in a second 1157 bulb. Up front, on the grille, I mounted the socket with the spring loaded door that is supposed to keep out the water & dust. It don't work, so I have an extra plug I stick in there when not towing. As has been said, this light arrangment avoids tying into the Jeeps electrical system, and avoids using diods.. Simpler is better.. Jack Smith 1973FC31 Sunny SoCal |
