Problems with Dometic RM2820
Bill,

Hope you have better luck with your Dometic!!

Ours was professionally installed, very solid, with good clearance. We have
only driven about 8k miles since purchase of refrigerator.
This is of course with air suspension, which should dampen vibration. The
unit looks like it was just installed.

The Dometic warranty covers a three-year period--our failed in four years.
The original unit lasted 15 years (factory demo built in 1986).

We purchased a Dometic RM2820 refrigerator in July, 2001. Yesterday
the coolant system began leaking. Not much of a life for a $1200
unit. If you replace your refrigerator with this model get the
extended warranty.

Bill,

This is not good news, I just installed a RM 2820.
It is really a tight fit. Do you think the cooling tubes could be
rubbing or vibrating against the rear wall??

Problems with Dometic RM2820
I am not Bill but I can tell you what happened when I installed mine.
The space that bluebird had installed the original Reefer in did not
conform to the design that Dometic specified in their brochure. I had
to completely rebuild it. I believe that is why they installed a fan
in the back to get it to work. The slide in toaster in the kitchen
protruded into the space that normally would flow air thru the coils
so I removed it. The coils themselves must be fairly close to the
rear wall and the sides of the reefer must be insulated good and be a
tight fit. There also has to be an air damn installed on the top of
the reefer to stop hot air from "pooling" at the top and not flow out
the roof vent. Mine now works excellent.

Bill & Rita, I would ask Dometic if they would consider extending the
warranty on your unit. Many times a manufacure will work with the
customer. It never hurts to ask.

Marty,

Thanks for the reply.

Dometic declined any help with the replacement cost because the refrigerator
had been out of warranty for a year.

I'll give them a call a regarding extending the warranty.

Thanks again,

Problems with Dometic RM2820
Our Dometic gave up the ghost on the 3rd day of a two mounth trip.
Not wishing to return home, or spend our traveling money for a new
unit, we stopped st Home Depot, and bought a two+ cubic foot 'bartype
refidgerator. We used a motorcycle tie down and strapped it to the
dinette table, and "Made Do" for the rest of the trip.
After returning home, we went to the RV store, and lucked out, because
they had a 2 year old "TakeOut" unit which they installed for a good
price..
