It's the 129x wet spline kit for $326.
So to really do the pto, you need:

1 CHE-328274 PTO closed end cap = $52.36
1 CHE-550397 1”i.d. bearing = $26.08
1 CHE-550532 1” i.d. bearing = 28.65
1 CHE-550439 1” i.d. bearing = 45.62
1 CHE-35-P-7 Gasket = 5.95

AND the 129x wet spline kit = 326.00

for a total parts cost of $484.66 plus the labor.

Then you need to address the pump by switching to the 1" pump (CPC 1049 CPC 030-R-2-AF-BC). Does that sound right?

Yes, John, but thhe repair shop (Redlands) had a Chelsea PTO service and sales company do the rebuild. The old 7/8" i.d. bearings have to be pressed off and the new bearings pressed on. I didn't see the rebuild process but I think the PTO had to be pretty much disassembled including the gears to get the old bearings off and the new ones on. That's where the rebuild labor charge came from. The process also made it easy to remove all the residual grease in the PTO.

That's great to know. I can do the labor, but I need to ensure I know exactly which parts I need to do it. I've got a 20 ton press, so doing the bearings won't be an issue. Timing is my biggest problem. I need to ensure I've got absolutely every part before starting, so I once I can get a day free, I can just do the job in its entirety.

I went back to check and make sure that I included all the necessary parts. I obviously missed that two (2) 550439 bearings are needed instead of one(1) that I posted. I wouldn't want you to tear down your PTO, then find you are missing one bearing. The attachment shows ALL the parts used to rebuild my PTO.

Thanks for the update. That's truly great. I appreciate you taking the time to clarify things for myself and everybody else! Hopefully "Big Blue" is getting to be more of a keeper!
[attachment=999]I pulled my pump and checked the splines. Thought you'd like a little more data on wear based on 160,000 miles, with the splines greased every 3-5 thousand miles, using the original grease fitting. The grease however was mostly synthetic, green Tractor Supply (some chassis grease from Detroit techs). No spline grease. The cavity was full of liquid grease, when opened up (it all ran out on the ground), so it was kind of like a wet lube situation.

The attached wear, as near as I could measure from .724 shaft diameter, was about .006". I am going to change to the wet spline, but will run awhile longer, using the Chelsea spline grease (which is in there now).
Morey , If you want to have a wet spine rally let me know . I would like to make this upgrade also . Like you I still have the spine greased about every 6k miles , she takes about half a tube . I have it done on every oil change . If done this will be one less possible issue in the future , thanks for the thread , this is a good upgrade

Thanks for the photo and the report. If it were me I'd replace your pump and pto splines sooner than later. Your photo shows significant wear on the face of each spline. Once the wear progresses thru the hardened outer layer it'll accelerate. It won't take long to chew thru the remainder of the spline width. The wear on the face of the spline looks like it's blued from heat. The heat also does a number to the temper of the steel. IOWs, the material remaining might be significantly softer than what was initially spec-ed.

As the splines wear the PTO will become more noisy. If you are experiencing a noticable increase in noise coming from the PTO while running, it may be time to replace it. Loaded with grease may deaden the whine somewhat. Johnney Anderson told me that too much grease there is not good. If I remember correctly, he said 3 to 4 pumpe of a grease gun (special grease) is adequate at each oil change.
