I've just purchased my first Bird and am looking for some help. The
original microwave/convection oven was broken so the previous owner
installed just a microwave in it's place. I would like to have the
convection portion back because there isn't any other oven installed.
I like my baked goods and the wife want's her oven back!

Has anyone else had this problem? What model/brand
microwave/convection oven will fit in the original hole on a 1985
PT40? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If no one knows, I can always do the measurements and search myself.
But, I thought someone may have already been down this road.

Thanks. Jerry

Hi Jerry and congrats on your Bird.

Check out the Sharp 930 convection/microwave it is 18.8 deep, 14.9 high and
25 wide and fits like a glove, and a good unit.

Blue Bird used "over-stove" style microwave/convection ovens selected from brands and models available at the time the coach was constructed. In recent years, I've heard reports from folks who've used Sharp brand microwave/convection ovens to replace broken/worn out units. Basically, its going to be a matter of simply measuring the available space and finding one that will fit. Since these units are designed to fit over stoves in homes, they tend to be about the same size, so there are probably many units that will fit.
It probably pays to shop around.

Thanks a bunch. I really like this old Bird and I want to get it

I replaced my Sharp with a Dacor DCM24S.

Fits nicely, needed a 1/2" shim(plywood with hardwood trim pc to look
like the rest of the Bird)

Works great. Dam near all convection/microwaves are made by SHARP. So
don't blow a bunch of money on DACOR or VIKING, they are made by
SHARP.

Of course I didn't learn that until I had bought the DACOR($850) for
the Bird and VIKING($1,500) for the house. They are the same except
the hood ornament....Daaa.....Live and learn

FWIW, the Sharp microwaves generally have "good" ratings for performance and high reliability ratings from Consumer's Reports.

That's good to know. I know I had a Sharp in my Beaver and it was a
top notch microwave/convection oven and still runs strong today after

My 15 year old Sharp failed and I replaced it with an new Stainless Sharp, about $500 at the time. The new one is miles ahead of the old one in efficiency according to the wife.
