I hope this does not sound like an ad, because I have no personal
vested interest in anything that I am about to say, but I see a lot of
our new and welcome "wannabes" and "gonnabes" posting lately about
looking at unknown (to our membership) or dubious quality Birds.

I want to remind potential buyers that there are several members with
Birds for sale right now that are known to be very well cared for
Birds. I believe that buying a well cared for Bird from a
knowledgeable forum member may keep your hidden start-up costs
*substantially* down. There are some great buys on Birds out there
right now from:
- Hank Hannigan 90sp36 *and* 80fc31
- Scott Bishop 86FC35
- Tom Meservey 81FC33
- Mike Hohnstein 74FC31
- Harvey Lawrence 84PT40

These are just the ones I remember off the top of my head, but I know
there are others recently listed by our members, as well as some in
the For Sale database on the WanderlodgeForum site
(http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Wand...tRows\
&tbl=8).
Some of these Birds listed above seem very attractively priced to me.

The common denominator is that if you search the forum archives you
will find that the Birds I noted are all owned by people that are
knowledgeable and picky about having everything "just right". Buying
the right starter Bird will long outlast the immediate victory of
having bought the cheapest Bird available.

Just a thought....... off soapbox, FWIW, YMMV, etc., etc.

Let me add Dave Hardy's 84 PT40 to that list Mike. I know he just lowered his
price.

George- yes, that's Harvey and Kathy Lawence's coach on Vintage birds. I have
been in and around that coach a lot. Harvey is selling it to downsize. Nice
coach, you- or someone can't go wrong. Of course, Harvey is paying me mega
bucks to say all this.

Don't forget to add a 1988 PT40 WB owned by Gene Marshall of
Dickinson, Texas.

Yes, I knew I was forgetting folks, but I am sitting here amazed that
Meservey's eBay listing starting at $15k hasn't even drawn a bid yet,
and Hank's 90SP for low $70s hasn't sold yet, and Gene's pristeen 88
is also out there..... These are great coaches, well cared for, ready
to roll, and just sitting with no sales activity.

Is the Bird market absolutely totally dead right now?

Vintagebirds' Board?
Thanks,george

Mike, just want to say thanks for including RUBY in your comments.

As you and I have discussed in the past many of the coaches sitting
on used car lots, "some" dealers lots etc have potential issues that
either the previous owner did not know, certainly the car lot does
not know (he prolly bought it wholesale) and folks buying them
quickly come to realization Birds can be expensive. But they got a
great "deal" and now are an owner.

For the folks looking for a BlueBird, candidly, there is some merit
to buying from the individual who has PROPERLY maintained their
coach. These owners generally would not hesitate to take their coach
on a trip at a moments notice because they know things are in order.
Also I would think forum members will point out short commings (aka
fixes, blemishes) because they are a member of this communtity. Also,
each coach has a personality that only the previous owner can
describe. I wish I had that on mine..I would not have spent two days
finding the check valve in the water inlet was backwards! :>)..

Big KUDOS for the owners and moderators for keeping up with this
forum and being the classy guys they are (heck I know most of em) and
helping out perfect strangers cause we all have something in common.
So folks looking should find an internet rally close by and go to
look and ask tons of questions. I know Tom came to Maxton..I bet he
learned volumes about FC's SP's and PT's Lxi's they were all there.

All of this said BlueBird is a fine machine. Generally get ohhhs and
ahhhs whether new or early 80's...and YES some of the older girls can
still dance!

Another wannabe, gonnabe Bird owner here, just biding my time until I
can sell my house and buy my new (to me) Bird, reading and watching
every ad, I really wanted the 89 FC on Vintage site but I just couldn't
work out financing details before selling the house. My new widow lady
friend and I are updating both our houses for sale or living, but plan
to not live in either if we can find a house we want where we want,
along with the Bird to keep us in nice weather year around. Thanks to
all members for sharing everything on the board that you are doing to
your steel house. Hoping to purchase one of them as soon as I sell the
house and my cabinet shop machines, i'm tired of working, 57 years is
enough.
