I recently moved us from a shared hosting environment hosted by GoDaddy to a Virtual Private Server (VSP) hosted by HostUS. So, what does a VPS look like? Here it is:
 VPS 1.JPG (Size: 165.13 KB / Downloads: 902)
. You can see we're running the Debian distro of Linux and more specifically version 7.2 code named Wheezy.

Once logged in, Linux spawns a shell which gives us a command line prompt allowing us to execute operating system commands. In the attached pic you can see I entered a command to list all the files in the WanderlodgeGurus directory. That's our website! You can see the directories labeled: "database", where our wanderlodge user manuals along with 5.7GB and 4300 files of documentation are kept; "gallery", which contains our coppermine photo gallery and which supplies the photos to our "Recent Gallery Photos" banner; and the "inc" directory holds all of our plugins which make our "Latest News" and "Recent Posts" plugins work; the rest are files required for MyBB which is our forum software.

I can enter a command to list all the processes which are running:
 VPS 3.JPG (Size: 233.88 KB / Downloads: 905)

Here you can see the processes handling our MySQL database queries and the apache2 processes handling our HTTP requests. The VPS runs a linux OS image in a virtual operating system world most likely running on VMSware; on top of that I loaded software packages to handle our HTTP requests (Apache), the MySQL relational database, the PHP programming language interpreter, and lastly MyBB our application program. All of this is currently consuming about 12GB of disk space! Guess what? All of these software packages are free and open source!

That's it!

I'm going to schedule a two day shutdown of the forum so I can freeze its state and move it to a new server. I bought a subscription to a new CPanel based Linux server offered by GoDaddy. I've already moved http://www.prevostgurus.com, temporarily named http://www.new.prevostgurus.com and I asked Ernie to test if for me. Looks like the new GoDaddy server solves the Verizon Hotspot connectivity issue WaGu has been plagued with.

Lucky for us it seems we're in a seasonal slow down as far as forum posts. Most folks are traveling and spending less time online. If anyone has a preference for a two day outage please let me know; otherwise, I'll pick a time that fits my schedule.

I haven't noticed any issues on my Android, Ipad, or my PC's, all running the Pale Moon web browser, but I've had two members tell me that they're having slow response or difficulty accessing WaGu. Let me know if you're having issues and what device and web browser you're using. I'll contact GoDaddy with this information to see about improving performance, if indeed we have a performance issue.

For extra credit, you can go to http://www.webpagetest.org and plug in http://www.wanderlodgegurus.com or a specific WaGu page or thread to get some numbers on your performance. Post your test results.

A typical performance test result for me looks like:
We have one large bottom drawer that will slide open on corners. (Heavy stuff in it)
These (2 types shown) were designed to go inside a drawer so it would open enough to get fingers in to unlatch. Child safety.
Works great here. A very small tab protrudes.
Another slide out drawer ( heavy BEVERAGES . ) I have a pin that slides into it from the side. Accessed by opening adjacent door under sink.

Folks,

I added the famed and coveted Google Custom Search facility to WaGu's Search Page. Actually the google custom search is a free service by google. They provide the indexing, search, and even the code to plug into our html. It's free and as simple as pie to implement - just cut and paste. I decided to put it on our Search Page as opposed to our Index Page. Clearly it makes more sense to have it on our Search Page; that's simply where it belongs. Having it there avoids added clutter on our Index Page and it also avoids the inevitable performance penalty which now is only incurred when you go to the Search Page.

Now you too can google search Wanderlodge Gurus just like the Big Boys! Let me know if you have any problems!

Maybe I'll call this a birthday present for WaGu!

Enjoy!
Mike Bulriss and I both very much appreciate the extended Blue Bird Wanderlodge Community. We'd like WaGu to present to it's membership the widest view possible of all Wanderlodge related activities and communities. Regional and Nationwide BB groups are an important part of this fabric. They fulfill a very special mission to their membership. They bring local flavor to the extended community, they hold rallies at special venues, and they build cohesiveness within community. It's these groups which really are the heart and soul of the Wanderlodge experience. Everything they do is grassroots and as such they define the ownership experience.
as i have gotten to know more and more of you and have followed your postings on this and other forums, i have to say how impressed i am with your knowledge, friendliness and passion.

it is funny how things turn out. serendipity as a good friend of mine often says....i shopped hard for a bird for nearly 6 months. i was flying out to florida on a friday to buy a beautiful bird and i called right before i left for the airport and found out the fellow had sold it. so that is how close i came...i made an offer on another one but it was not as advertised so we retracted our offer. cant say i didnt try.

then i happened upon my first newell. now on my second one. i could have been happy in a bird as well.

and then.....back i am in the midst of the birdmen and birdwomen. and it has been extremely enjoyable. i feel great that there will be at least one wanderlodge at our newellgurus rally in south dakota later this month (and a few prevosts, foretravels, etc)

david has become a great friend and i grovel in his presence and knowledge of these great machines. he is a great fellow and crazy smart as most of you are (not sure who isnt....ha)

my wife and i talk about this frequently. that is we NEVER expected to get a whole new set of dear friends out of having a coach. we have so many wonderful friends, some of which i feel like i have known my whole life and i have never even met them face to face. we correspond, we talk on the phone etc. many many of my newell friends have been to our home and us to theirs. we have met 2 already on this trip and will be staying at anothers home next week.

i see that same thing with the bird gang.

thanks for letting me be part of your world.

First create a new thread. Here's an Easy Way to Create Threads tutorial.

Next, fill in the Thread Title (step 1 circled in read in the following snippet) and Message Body (step2).
Next, scroll down to the bottom of the message body and click on "I want to post a poll" and enter the number of polling question options you'd like (step 3 circled in red).
Here's the twist, MyBB forces you to now post your message to the board, but you haven't yet told it anything about your poll particulars! Weird! I know, but go ahead and click on the "Post Reply" button (step 4).
After you post your message the poll template will be launched asking you to post your question and the options for answers as shown in the following snippet:
