When I pulled in for fuel in Nebraska, I noticed I lost the left front bezel somewhere in the storm. It was suggested to me that when I build the new bezels, I should use LED's instead of the stock lights and reflectors. New fiberglass bezels with Halo LED's. I updated the lower turn signal with the same LED's. All lights turn on and blink simultaneously. Here are some photos of my results.
Had fun installing led lights in the molding that joins the roof aluminum to the SS sides.
I used 2 separate lengths. I split them at the Girard awning split. 16 ft 5 inches and 22 ft. Powered parallel as it is too long as one strip.
Supplied the power with a 120v-12v transformer located above the front door and have remote dimmers for both sections.
The LED's are visible only from almost directly below and the light is directed down.
5630 LED strips were used for the brightness.

LED	Dimensions	Chip Surface Area	Lumen Flux	Power Draw
3528 LED	3.5 mm x 2.8 mm	9.8 mm²	6-8 lumens	20-30 mA @ 2.8-3.4 Volts
5050 LED	5.0 mm x 5.0 mm	25 mm²	16-22 lumens	60 mA @ 2.8-3.4 Volts
5630 LED	5.6 mm x 3.0 mm	16.8 mm²	45-50 lumens	150 mA @ 2.8-3.4 Volts

I’d be interested in a discussion on the viability (or not) of abandoning the inflatable rubber seal that surrounds the slide on my LXi. My inflatable seal is in good working order presently but I’m sure that sometime in the future it will need to be replaced. This is a fairly large and expensive job.

The HWH slide is fitted with a brush wiper attached to the walls of the slide opening. It is located about an inch inside the slide opening behind the corner trim piece. This brush wiper circumnavigates the slide and is designed to clear debris off the outer walls of the slide particularly during the retraction process.

There is also a hard vinyl trim piece that is fitted to the corner of the slide opening. It also circumnavigates the entire slide opening.

Since I have not had the opportunity to view these two parts without the slide being present, it’s difficult to determine if they are attached to each other, one complete piece or are two separate pieces. At any rate, why could not the brush portion be replaced with a solid silicone rubber wiper/seal? This wiper/seal would be attached in the same manner as the current brush seal and sized so the leading edge or edges would contact the slide walls and act as a seal. Made of soft silicone rubber, it shouldn’t damage the painted surface of the slide during movement.

This may not provide an absolute water seal as well as the current inflatable seal but designed correctly it should suffice to keep water out and air noise to a minimum due to it being located so close to the outside vertical sidewalls of the bus.

Comments welcome………….

LXi Slide operation.
I put off extending the slide on my new LXi during the trip to California. now it is time to get accustom to the process.I remember a bunch of input on the process and hope to move things over here

?question
1. Re-level, it seems that the hwh panel will not drop all 4 when I hit auto level, however I can push all 4 down with the other toggles. will this work to make it level and slide.
2.does the transmission bypass toggle need to be set back to "check system"

Today I lost another slat from the louvered covers over the engine radiator and battery compartment. I have been considering changing to either expanded metal or perf-metal, <http://www.stainlesssteelblog.com/2013/08/perforated-stainless-steel-plate.html>, but have questions:

For appearance, obscuring the interior of the engine spaces using the smallest holes would be preferred. How does one select an opening size to give airflow comparable to the original louvers?

I would paint the new panels to match the coach, but would prefer stainless or aluminum for corrosion resistance. There is also the concern about stiffness versus the need for bracing, and consequent weight issues.

One side is 52" wide by 43" tall, the other is 44" wide by 40" tall. A single 4'x8' sheet should be sufficient.

Anyone have a source for such materials? Suggestions?

(BTW, on my last visit to Colaw's salvage in MO, none of the birds had intact louvered covers, or any slats of sufficient length.)

Thanks--

Spent a couple of days last week at CoachCraft by MacDonald searching for some roof leaks. John Boy Hughes cranked up his low tech "rednek engineered" pressurizer. A plyboard box that fits in a window, a sheet plastic "duct" and a heavy duty fan like the home rehab people use (i.e. Service Masters, ServePro, etc.) Tape over weep slots in the windows and other openings.

About 30 minutes to an hour of forcing air into my bird, then on the roof and around the tops of the sides with a Windex bottle of soapy water, I had more bubbles coming out of my coach than Lawrence Welk ever had on his program.

Some of the clearance lights were allowing water to enter, a few bolts on the goat rails and of all things, three roof plate seams.

Another couple of hours with a caulk gun, sealant and new bolts and a nice mini-monsoon common for this part of the world, the leaks were all gone.

My cost was right at $500.00. And a couple of free nights at the "Luxurious CoachCraft RV Resort".

Anybody got some leaks that you just can't get fixed, you might want to give CoachCraft a call:
I used Mother's "Back to Black" exterior trim and hardware restorer to renew the color. It worked well on the black anodized frames and any other plastic, vinyl or rubber trims. It should not be used on any painted surfaces, so any of the solution that got on the painted surfaces adjacent to the frames was immediately wiped off.
