Rear Vision LCD
I found a portable DVD player at Target that has a switch labled in/out. Not
all DVD's have this feature. I then mounted a color camera I found on ebay for
about $35 in the rear and ran new video cable from there all the way forward.
The cable was also obtained on ebay and was 50 feet long and I hid the cable
under the long drip rail that runs the length of the Bird just above the
windows. The cable then plugs into the DVD and with switch on "in" I get a very
clear color rear view. The camera is made for backup and gives the reverse
image just like a mirror, works great. The DVD is velcro held by the driver on
top of the CB radio cover. The DVD also is often removed and is very useful in
keeping the grandkids quiet on the long trips.

It will work......better yet, you can get units that attach to the roof and
the screen
flips down to be seen..... but....you get what you pay for....that means
resolution...

Blair,
Resolution, that is what I'm afrade of with the DVD player. If the one I
have here at the house will work I'll hook it up next week when my
camera/lens arrive. I changed vendors and also getting a Fuji lens 2.7 -
2.13mm ($69.00).

Hi William,
You are doing what I am thinking I want to do...entertain the grand
kids. That is why I am thinking about the DVD player. Will know more
next week.

One of the reasons I went for a LCD non-framed with remote was to keep the
look
of the original coach....it fit nicely in the original hole where the CRT
was stashed...
which also left a lot of room for other garbage behind the screen....Blair

Like Blair says: "you get what you pay for".

In the LCD screen, this means that most screens don't have the
brighness nor the contrast for full-daylight operation plus low
resolution, the cheap cameras are also lower resolution and not good
low-light cameras.

The difference that a good ultra-low-light high-res camera (about
$150) will make with the present CRT monitor is amazing.

I hated the LCD I had, had to shade it with my hand to view it on a
bright day, and it was too bright at night. A high-quality LCD
monitor is what you want.

Figure a very good LCD with all the controls, good color camera with night
vision capabilities coupled with an
adjustable auto iris lens puts you right about $ 500-$600 bucks.... I
watch our toad, a Tahoe, at night in
color with just the light from the rear running lights.....and can watch
the trooper an eighth of a mile back in
the inside lane.....

Blair,
I just finished removing the CRT. The opening measures 8-3/4" diag. and
the CRT is about 9" diag.

As far a the LCD fit goes, is the 8.4" LCD going to work or should I be
looking at the 9"?
Thanks,
Curt

Curt, just mask it off and spray with some black paint....
On mine, I made a male master pattern and vacuum formed some Lucite/Plexiglass/
(polymethyl methacrylate) to make a new overlay that fit the new screen.

You can adjust the top and bottom of the LCD so that the viewing area will
be what you
want. That coupled with the adjustable lens will let you get what you want
with ease...
