spring loaded grab latch - jkenn48105 - 06-26-2013 22:21

I did a search and all I could find was closet door pulls. I'm looking for the
spring loaded grab latch and the ones from McMaster are too big. The catch part
that goes on the door is 2 13/16 from McMaster and I need one that is just
under 2 1/4" long and only 9/32" wide. The center of the screw holes is 1 3/4".
Thanks.

Jim,

Are you looking for these Southco Grabber Catches? The attached pdf has dimensions of their current offerings. I think they did change some of their measurements recently. If you can't find an exact replacement you may have to replace both the catch and the keeper.

As I remember, the last catches that I ordered from Southco, they no longer had the old size and you need to replace both halves of the catch. The new ones are slightly larger.

The new Southco male latch part will work with the old snap fastener female. You just have to relocate the screw holes because it has a bigger plate. It seems like the male part always fail first.

McMaster Carr has them:

I have the ones from McMaster and the problem is that on my washer/dryer closet there is very little room to mount the latches. the new ones are just a tad too thick and the door doesn't close correctly. I still have a few of the old ones, oh well.

Jim,

I'll be over at my bus next week. I may I have a few of the old ones lying around. If so I can send a couple to you.

Why not mount the new ones on the doors that have clearance and use the ones from those spots for the washer cabinet?

Good idea on using old ones for the w/d closet. I still have a couple of the old ones (new) and plenty of the new ones that are larger. Why I didn't think of re-using old ones... getting old ain't for sissies Smile
