More on hydraulic filter leak. - artw - 09-09-2010 06:47

I posted a few weeks ago about a hydraulic filter leak I sa having.
This morning I finally got around to doing something about it.
After removing the filter cannister I couldn't find the O ring seal.
I found it inside the cannister! didn't do much good there. In putting things
back together I have a couple of questions.

Is the filter cartridge supposed to push up into the "socket" in the filter
housing? Mine won't push up in there. It seems that would hold the cartridge in
place while fitting the cannister.

Is there supposed to be a spring in the bottom of the cannister to
keep the cartridge up in the housing?

I have suspended work until these questions are resolved.
