Leaf springs on older Birds - Ralph L. Fullenwider - 07-29-2010 04:13

Hi Guys and Gals:

Anyone have any info on leaf springs used on '78 gas Birds? Had a call
today asking me and I just don't have that info.

Thanks

Safe travels,

Hello Ralph, Don't know what kind of info that you are looking for, but I have a 1977 Bird with a Ford 534CI gas engine. I vaugely remember a recent post by someone saying that the rear end on a Bird that he was looking  seemed to be either forward or backward of where he thought it should be. With that, I can be of no help. Every truck, bus,RV, etc, including mine, that I have ever seen, the wheels, rear end and all other things seemed to all be centered within the wheel well. Other than that, FIRE AWAY. George Burke 1977 FC31 Charlotte

Hi Ralph, it was nice talking to you the other day. My rig is a 75' FC31 that
has been converted to cat diesel and it has a few broken leafs. I was looking
for spring part numbers so I can order new spring and R&R them at the time and
not have it down very long I'm going to be doing the work myself.
Thanks
Roger

Leaf springs on older Birds - Curt Sprenger - 07-31-2010 06:44

Ralph,
I sent Roger an email. Can't help much with the springs. But did let him know of Deaver Suspension in Santa Ana, CA. They built springs for one of my one ton dually trucks.

Ok, Roger/Ralph, Here is the only info that I have found on springs for a 1977 FC 31 with a Ford gas engine. "From BlueBird" , Springs used on BlueBird chassis are manufactured to our specifications by well known manufacturers of automotive type springs. Under Rear Spring Group (Forward Control) is Part No. 0350686 Spring 3 X 52 X 11 Leaf . Application All Qty 2 . A couple pins are listed as being made by Ford, and some nuts by Bowman Product Co. Roger, maybe someone with knowledge of a former BB mechanic from the factory that is working for another RV company could help you, or check with a good spring company, with the above specs. on the whole leaf spring assy. Good Luck, George Burke 1977 FC 31 Charlotte

We are staying cool. It's been below normal temperatures here all spring and summer. Low 80s today. Forecast is the same for the next 10 days. Nice.
