What To Do: To Sell Me Your Bird. - Gregory OConnor - 05-09-2008 18:17

JR, here is a link to Dicks bus.
http://www.pbase.com/gregoryoc/hayden_86_pt38
Dick, How much$ for your 87 8V92 pt???

I dont know what to do to Sell but I'll tell you what I do.

1-I use my full name in the advert to add validity to ad. Not that
anyone who knows me would buy from me

2-I answer emails of multiple questions by return email, answering
only one and include my cell phone number. Some folks just like to
window shop, serious buyers will drop a dime. When buying, I email
my cell# and ask the seller to call me about some questions.

3-when someone tries to negotiate a lower price on the phone, I
respond an amount I would not consider.( IE "some one offered me
50,000 and I turned it down") I do the same when buying -I ask the
seller if there have been any offers and how much they refused. ( I
often change the subject after asking this to give the seller a
chance to think it over, I re-ask the question or call back a day
later. the answer they give is just below acceptable sell
price.) . this sets thresholds that save time if the price is out
of mutual range.

4-only use three to four pics. For some reason Coaches usuly look
better in pics?? so they show little truth. many pics and a big
description looks like a snow job or a seller/owner who will take it
personal if a onsite reasonable offer is made. When some one wants
more pics, I advise them to view it in person or send some one to
look at it.

5. I never consider Canadian Economist (any Canadian actually),
Investment brokers, the price of fuel or race/sex/party in office
when making a decision on pricing. I listen to the buyer with the
money.

What To Do: To Sell Me Your Bird. - J R Saunders - 05-10-2008 18:15

Leroy,

You said

>However, you failed to tell us what you are looking for and
whether you are looking pristine or a beater?
<

Good question...The wife & I have been talking about that. After
looking over all the model years on Vintage Birds website,

and checking current sales pricing. Keeping in mind the uncertainty in
our economy and price of fuel. We have decided to hold off

on our purchase, till August of this year. This will give us some time
to
see if we are in a bad recession or a total blow out depression.

LOL. And we can do a lot more studying about Birds.

When it's time to buy, we will be looking for 1980 to 1985 35FC or a
1982 40PT. We like the Side Bath, Double Bed, Couch/Sleeper

and the two chairs w/cabinet. Not looking for any beaters, pristine,
not sure, one man's pristine could be another man's beater, maybe

somewhere in between. I am looking for a unit that is mechanically
sound and all systems in good working order. Something I think all

buyers would want. What ever we buy, it will be our last motor home
purchase, so it will be for long term use. Early retirement for the

wife, hopefully sometime next year.

To all who responded to our first post, Thank you one and all. You have
a very good forum here. Deane & I will keep reading and may ask

a few questions as they come up.

Thanks again for your time.

Best Regards,

Good post IMO. However, you failed to tell us what you are looking for
and whether you are looking pristine or a beater?

If you are looking long term, forget the stick and plastic RV's.

JR,

Thanks for the kind words on the forum. A word of caution on your
listed choices for Birds: the 82 PT40 was the first year of the PT
series. Since it was the first year, few were made (thus hard to
find), a "one-each" model in that it has the DD 6V92 "red" engine (300
hp) rather than the DD 6V92TA (330hp) that following models had. You
might want to expand your range to look at 83-85 PT models also since
they are going to be in the same price range, and incorporate the
common later engine (and probably several other things they learned on
the 'starter model'Wink.

FWIW. Good luck on your search and feel free to ask lots of questions.
