Andy- at the co-pilot's seat, there is a red switch. That is your block
heater- unless those guys in Reno confiscated that. When I had my FC that is all
I needed. I use that on my PT, also. Starts on the first lick.

Hello Everyone,

I just bought myself a cold weather thermal jump suit to keep working
on my bird through the winter. Looks like it is going to be a cold one.

Have a question for you all... I'm the guy who had the motor on his
83' FC-35 pulled and worked on in Reno, NV last summer. Well, I have
since realized that when they put it back together, they failed to
replace some parts...

My bird had a small electric water pump that appeared to re-circulate
coolant through the engine. I figure that was used to keep the engine
warm for cold weather starting. It is no longer on my coach - the
Reno mechanic replaced it with a straight hose.

This will be my first winter with my bird on the road. Should I go
ahead and replace this electric pump, or is there a better alternative
to heat the engine before starting it? To be honest, I don't even
know how that pump was turned on. Guess I still have much to learn.

At what temperature do you need to start pre-heating a 3208?

Any advice would be a great help!

I suspect that what you are calling a pump was
actually the engine block heater. It's about the size
of a soda can, mine is silver and located behindthe
bumper on the passenger side. You should probably
replace it if it was the block heater. 3208's start
pretty well in the cold but therre are no glow plugs
so a block heater is very nice. You might need a shot
of ether if it gets real cold and no block heater.

Andy, The 3208 starts really easily most of the time. No glow plugs, even. But
to save your batteries, use block heat and start on AC or run your generator to
give your starter and batteries a boost. Now the DD8V92 is an engine that does
NOT like to get up on a cold morning. My block heater went out in Santa Fe and
I didn't think I'd ever get it to start. Brad Barton

old Wanderlodge that it really makes a difference in the amount of
exhaust smoke when I light oft the heater about two hours before I
run the engine. Also with my old 3208 it will keep on smoking till
it get up to running temperatures and then it just seems to go away.
I really like these old 3208's as they seem to be almost bullet proft
and can run forever if the PM's are kept ed up. Jon

Yep, that is it David!

Just as you described. And my coach no longer has one. I have to
look to see how far back they cut my wires!

Is a new block heater readily available in a parts store? Or does it
have to be ordered through Bluebird? Anybody know?

Thanks Ernie! I was wondering what that red switch was on the floor.
It used to light up when I plugged the coach in. It lights up no
more. Mystery solved!
