Air pedestals for seats - bubblerboy64 - 08-16-2007 01:33 I am finishing up my more major projects on "The Big Napper". I did replace the captains chairs and I think I would like to put air pedestals in the coach. This bus has the round pipes under the chairs and I assume they are welded (not bolted) in place. Space is pretty tight around the dog house and I am looking for direction as to what air pedestal to use and how to go about this. It would be nice not to have to cut out the existing supports but I am assuming that would be the first thing needed. Any info appreciated. I had such a part in a Chevy van, powered with a small CO2 bottle with a regulator of course. It was a Bostrom piece. Installing such a part would require some fabricating to work in your FC. The round pipes are welded to a square base that is bolted to the bus floor with nuts and bolts. A two man job to remove probably. An alternative would be to remove the base entirely and install a complete air seat assy. like in a truck. I went this way in my toter home, used a pair of Bostrom Talledega leather covered seats. Purchased new, they were a grand each. I'm sure you could find equivilent pieces in a truck dismantling yard at a greatly reduced price. The air seats are the answer if comfort is an issue in your FC. There are photos of it in the WOO web site. I was able to do it with out welding, tools used were an angle grinder and drill. One problem is to much air and it will put your head into the overhead. I was considering doing the same thing on my 82. How long did it take to do it? How does too much air cause problems? Where are the pictures? The photos are in the WOO website photo section. The PO installed a Flexsteel for the drivers seat. With the Bostrom under it makes for a smooth ride most of the time. I spent aprox 8 to 10 hours on the project. A breif description follows, Remove the seat slide from the Bostrom. Cut the post from the 2 plates on the present seat petistal. mount the bottom plate on Bostrom the top plate with all the slides and swivel on top. hook up the air. The Bostrom seat uses a air bag and shock to cusion the ride. This also allows you to controll the heigth of the seat.
