I am wondering what others are using for service intervlas on a 3208
Turbo intercooled. I have the factory engine guide and it is really
geared to industrial users. For instance the oil is to be changed every
3 months or sooner according to engine hours. Most of us do not log 300
hours (about 12000 miles) in a 3 month period. Today's manuals for RV
engines take this into account and have a more reasonable requirement.
I realize the 3208 is not today's technology and extended intervals
would not work. I was thinking of every 6 months or 5000 miles. Anyone
concur? if not what would you suggest and why? Coolant changes are even
worse. Cat suggests every year at minimum.

I am running about 5k a year in mileage on the 3208T. I change oil
and filters at end of season prior to winterization. I think once a
year if miles are under say between 5-8k would be fine. Over 8k a
year, I would likely change it.

I use Shell Rotella dino oil as i can get it in 5 gal buckets from a
local shop.

Just my view, not saying this is the CAT or BB recommended policy,
just mine.

That would be fine on the oil change interval. Get the test strips from Cat for
the coolant and keep it sweet. I use the expensive stuff from Napa to treat the
coolant.
