UT Taxes - trvlngnrs - 02-08-2006 03:54

1) Here is the breakdown for the County of St. George:

UT Registration Fees for 1986 PT38 with DD
1.5% Property Tax: =$892.50/yr (Will not drop much, as is already near
bottom of depreciation table.

40,000lb Weight fee: $290/yr

Registration: $20 first year, then $9/yr

Diesel Fee: None in Washington County

= $1191/yr Registration

2) George, I think your friend with the bus conversion pays less
because the intial MSRP may have been lower. He may not have to pay the
40,000 lb weight fee either.

3) LLC: I'll look at the website, my initial reaction is "not really".
If I was fulltiming I would feel "safer" doing it. It seems obvious
that I am only doing it to save taxes, which I don't have a problem
doing (I took out of state delivery on our Dutch Star while living in
CA), but I don't want to get penalized later.

4) Taxes on Duramax + Fifth wheel: I'll call today and find out. I
have an '01 Tacoma 4x4 that I will sell before getting the Chevy. The
value of the Chevy will be approx $8,000 more, so I don't think the
registration will be greatly increased. I'll probably spend around
$20,000 for the fifth wheel so the tax basis is less and there is no
Weight Fee. I used to own a '94 Chevy 4x4 and it was so much more
comfy than the Toyota, that I am actually looking foweward to getting
another one. Toyota's seats leave a lot to be desired.

5) Thanks to all for your concern!! I have had 4 people email me,
interested in the rig. I would really like a "family" member to buy it
so I can keep track of it:-)

Steve, do you have any indication of original cost/value of your
Bluebird, other than the county assessors's statement of $300,000+
that you mentioned a couple of weeks ago? Maybe the assessor is
wrong. For comparison purposes, I have a 1987 Country Coach that
listed at $148,000 new and is currently worth about $50,000. Granted,
I may be comparing apples and oranges, but over $300,000 seems
pretty high for 1986. It sure would be to your advantage if you could
knock a few $$$ off that original MSRP.
Good luck in your battle with the bureaucrats,

The MSRP was $370,000 for our 1987 PT38. My current registration shows a
list price of $321,145.

Well, it was a good idea while it lasted. '86-'87 was when Country
Camper changed their name to Country Coach because you can sell a
Coach for a lot more money than you can a Camper. After that they
raised their prices to keep up with the rest of the crowd (Bluebird,
Vogue, Foretravel, etc.). I'll go back to "lurk" mode.
