"POOF" From LP Heater - erniecarpet@... - 12-10-2005 04:23

steve- get you a small wire brush and clean the probes inside the site glass.
They get carbon on them and with a gentle cleaning will help them out.

Steve- the site glass has a couple of wing nuts. It also has a gasket that
become fragile with age- kinda like me. Ernie-83pt40 in thawing out texas

"POOF" From LP Heater - trvlngnrs - 12-10-2005 05:39

While outside, removing the polarity monitor, I noticed the bedroom LP
heater would run for awhile then I would hear a "POOF". The heater
would run for a few minutes and "POOF" again.

I have already vacumed the areas I could get too, but really couldn't
get to very much of the heater due to the metal box it's in.

I've been told a couple times to clean it, but how? Do I need to
disconnect the gas line and take it out? Is there a way to open up the
heater box to clean inside it?

TIA,
Steve Harrie

Nope Guy, I didn't do that. Do you mean the propane detector with the
red button, on the floor by the refer, that connects to the LP tank
solenoid? Or is there another switch?

I had 2 furnaces on, only the rear was making the noise, thats why i
figured it was just dirty. I just can't get into it. I unscrewed the
grill on the front and tried sticking the narrow vacumn attatchment as
far as it would go, but it wasn't very far.

I noticed this week that my rear LP heater will not come on at all. The kitchen
heater as well front heater works great. I looked at it but didn't know how to
get
into it or what to do first. It has been cold in Oklahoma.

Thanks Ernie, I'll do that. Does the site glass just unscrew, or is
there a trick to it. The PT is not stored at my house, so I can't go
check:-(

Steve, glad you brought up LP heaters.

We've never used our LP heaters. However, during the next couple months
they will be needed when camped out in the desert. With tank valve open,
do I set the dash switch to LP ON, and set the thermostats to the
desired temp? Something more? I'll attempt to clean them first.

Ha, are you brave! Asking me for help. Here is what I've figured out
so far:

* Propane tank on.
* LP detector on.
* Dash LP switch has to be on to provide 12 volt to the ignitor.
* Each furnace has it's own thermostat, each one of these must be on
(small lever on the bottom).
* Set desired temp.
* Stand outside:-) (I used to work in a burn unit)

Thank you Steve. I'll follow your input...and run outside. Probable
start with the bedroom heater.
