Air Conditoner Fan Motor Bearings Shot - Jack and Liz Pearce - 07-24-2005 06:28 Howdy, Y'all. The fan motor bearings are kaput on our bedroom air conditioner. Jack wants to know how to replace that motor. It looks to be very difficult because the drive shaft is so long. Is there a trick to replacing that motor without disassembling the whole world? or comments would be appreciated. Thanks, Regards, Jack and Liz Pearce Fulltiming in a 1993 Wanderlodge WB40 Homesick Texans in SE. Fullenwider - 07-24-2005 07:47 Jack/Liz: Assuming it is a roof top AC, replacing the fan motor is pretty straight forward. With the cover off, and the circuit breaker off, note the wiring numbers/color ( don't trust to memory) if not a plug in. The main thing is getting the fan blade and squirrel cage back in the right configuration. If the new motor is the right one but the shaft is too long, it is normal to cut the shaft to proper length. Be sure to check the motor start capacitor if reusing the old one, and of course check the start/run capacitor on the compressor as well.
