87 PT40 shocks - mrkane - 04-21-2014 22:48

What are the current suggested shocks for an 8V92 '87 PT40? Recommended suppliers?

Also does anyone have the specs or an exploded view of the Rockwell differential in the 87? I need to fix a leak around the pinion splines, and need the pinion seal ID number.

Thanks--

M.R.,

While I can only help a little, you should find a tag on the differential that will give you the basic starting point for it. It will not be the same tag as the axle tag. Mine was mounted on the driver's side of the differential, and my axle tag was mounted on the passenger side of the axle housing. I was able to google diagrams for the diff, even though I was looking for the axle, as I had to replace an outer seal in the axle.

Mike, if you go by or call Clyde(or Carl, his son), he should be able to give you those numbers, as they had to rebuild my differential. it should be in my folder. Maybe Sara can look up my files and find it.

M.R. - I recently put new Koni's on the front of my 87 PT-40 8V92. The recommended shock was 902497 SP1. They were $200 each. You can get them direct from Koni at http://www.konirv.com. The new Koni's made a huge difference in the ride, no more bouncing or porpoising and it feels much more stable in corners.

Old Tag axle shocks were Gabriel AS-789B. Replaced with Monroe 66886 Magnum 60 series.
