Mentioned by several forum members is this easy fix for storage bay doors with weak air springs. As this is a common problem...I thought a photo and specs might help others. The best fix is to replace the worn out air spring. They cannot be rebuilt. Do not try to "open" the air spring. Replacements available from Campers World (typically in stock), or from BB or Orr & Orr. The "PVC tubing fix" is to use a length of PVC tubing that is large enough to fit over the "thicker part" of the air spring. For my FC I use a section of 1" DIA x 6.25" at my rear bay door. In my use, when the door is raised, the tubing remains at the base of the spring due to gravity and being larger in diameter than the spring. As the door lid goes up, the PVC tube end cants over and then acts as a brace on the "shoulder" of the larger section of the air spring. To close, you raise the lid a bit and "tip" the PVC to fit over the air spring and close the lid. Hard to describe, take a look at the photo (in the 85FC33 folder) and it is very clear.
