Hello, Does anyone know the sizes and poundage we would need for our 1988 pt40
for the engine compartment door? Old ones are wore out and can see no numbers
on them. I looked on ORr&Orr webiste but am having a difficult time determining
which ones are the correct replacement. Any help or suggestions would be
greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

I need these for my 90PT as well and have had the same difficulty.

I replaced mine 5 years ago from Orr&Orr.
Can't tell you the length, but the poundage was 130# each.
I'm sure our doors must be the same.

Hi Robert,

On an 88, they are probably Stabilus gas struts. There should be a series of
numbers on each strut cylinder, but they can be hard to see. I had to search
for them on the bay door struts as they all seemed to be facing the wrong way.
Orr and Orr can match them from those part numbers.

Or you can contact Stabilus at
Stabilus Inc.
1201 Tulip Drive
Gastonia, NC 28052
Tel. 704 865 7444
Fax 704 865 7781

They will point you to a distributor as they don't sell direct.

Then again, there is always Parliament Coach.

Please post your part number when you find it.

Thanks,

I found numbers on my gas struts and sent to Orr & Orr. This is the response I got. I can see why the PO might have gone to an aftermarket replacement on the one side. Follow down for the price.

Leroy provided a different number,
D56070 . I’m checking price and availability on that one too.

Well, that's fairly pricey! Did you try Parliament Coach? We'll be interested
in the response on Leroy's part number.

Well, I just heard back from Orr & Orr.

"096571 is same price and lead time, they are the same springs with
different pressure. 096636 is 900N and 096571 is 700N"

And pricey they are. No, I haven't tried Parliament Coach or any other
potential dealer... But I will. I will also try Amazon and eBay.

Thanks! That link is an email address, so I googled the name and found this:

http://stores.ebay.com/strutyourstuffhere

Hard to believe the price difference. What Orr & Orr is charging give or
take $460.00 for a pair, this ebay seller lists pairs for less than $40.00
plus $14.00 shipping. I've emailed him with the Stabilus part number to make
sure these are a direct cross.
