Full Version: SP-36 Engine Light

bluebirdsp36

Our SP-36 has 79,000 miles and the check engine light comes on. There appears to
be nothing wrong with the engine. All gauges are normal and fluids full. The
wiring diagram is not clear where the fault sender(s) are located. Does anyone
have suggestions?

Paul   My light comes on also. It usually goes out after I start driving. My sender is at the top radiator hose. I replaced mine once so I don't know what is causing my light to come on. It should be telling you that your coolant  is  low. At least that is what I think.

Ralph

That same check engine light will go off with early or late timing as well and if an injector is sticking. The ABS system can send a msg too. Though the low coolant is the usual. Some times cleaning the DDEC connectors will help too along with the ECU.

Just some other thoughts on it. Need to have a reader put on the alarm to know for sure.

No DDEC on an SP36, but the first question that came to my mind was "isn't there
any code that can be flashed like on the DDEC?"

Paul,

No check engine light in an SP as you have in an electronic controlled engine.
The engine alarm light will indicate low coolant level, high coolant temperature
and low oil pressure (and maybe others - I will try to check whatever else).
Coolant level is the most likely cause if the temp and pressre are OK on your
gages.

Paul,
