I'm guessing the built in safe in my '86 PT-40 is not fireproof, and any cash
carried would be lost if the coach burned to the ground, yeah?

So I'm considering buying a fire proof safe. I'm fishing for mounting locations
/ ideas, but more importantly, wondering if ANY fireproof safes are good enough
for this application? Will a 2 hour rated 1850 degree safe adequately protect
it's contents in a fire fed by 300 gallons of fuel and a big old propane tank?
It seems iffy at best.

Any thoughts or ideas would be most appreciated.

I don't think you have much to worry about in terms of keeping things
from burning in the safe. RV's burn up. Anything at floor level or below
is not really subjected to that much heat. The heat goes up - not down.
Go take a look at the thread on Randy's RV and when it burned. He was
able to retrieve things from the storage compartments that weren't
damaged at all. Also, I was at a campground this summer and a SOB RV
burned and pretty much left NOTHING above the floor. Yet, they were able
to retrieve most of the stuff from the storage compartments below.

Also, propane tanks rarely burn in those fires for the same reason -
fires burn up not down. Nor do the fuel tanks. As mentioned, that SOB
fire didn't burn the propane nor the gas in the tank (and it was gas -
not diesel).
