John

I received a notice from my vehicle insurer GMAC, that they will only
be providing liability, but not full coverage insurance, for any
vehicle over twenty years old. I investigated a few insurers and
found only one, Progressive Insurance, that would provide full
coverage for my 'Bird, but at an increase of $345.00 per year . Since
I live in it full time, the others would not cover it, but they gave
no reason why and I have an excellent driving and credit rating.

I would like some names of insurers that ONLY FULL TIMERS use. One
other problem that I can see, is that my legal residence is in South
Carolina, where some insurance companies do not provide coverage and
I do not wish to change legal residence location.

Thanks for any assistance.

John,

At the seminars held at the FMCA Conventions, the brokers (Miller,
Alexander, etc.) said that there were only seven companies in the US
that wrote full timers insurance. When you own a home, you normally
have a homeowners insurance policy. This contains a lot of things that
a normal auto policy does not such as personal liability, contents,
and some others that I am not expert enough to recall. When you go
full time and drop your homeowners policy and depend only on a auto
type policy, you are losing a lot of protection you formerly had.

The Miller Agency ((800) 622-6347), is one. The former RV Alliance
America (they recently changed their name) (800) 521-2942 is another.
I suggest that, if not a member of FMCA, join and get their magazine
which has a lot of information in it. Regardless of who you talk to,
ask them if they write "fulltimers" insurance. If they don't know what
you are talking about, go to someone else.

BTW, I know people who have had coverage with both companies and they
have always paid off on losses....
