the wife commented that the toe heater in the bath/hallway was cycling on/off
for short periods. i checked it out, and, for the 1st time, i noticed that the
orange lite on the front of the heater is lit when the heater isn't blowing, and
is off when it is blowing. thinking that the thermostat was set too low i
turned it up to the max and it still cycles on/off for short periods. i.e. 10
or so seconds per cycle. it's the original heater. anybody?

Note that some models of the toe-kick heater were recalled. You may simply want to replace it.

I would turn off the applicable circuit breaker, pull the heater out, remove the cover and clean the heater by and vacuming and or blowingit out. Alsolook for anything unusual and inspect the wiring connections. You also need to make sure you are getting adequate air flow from the blower on the heater and that nothing is restricting the air flow, you could compare the blower performance to the other electric heater in your coach.

The Cadet TK 101 electric heaters are a fire hazard and have been recalled. The
CPSC recall notice can be found as follows:

The UC 101 either white of black is a perfect replacement. Takes about 30
minutes to swap one out.
Still recommended the heaters be opened up eevery six months or so and vacuum
out the dust bunnies.

For the past 6 years I had been using a 16 gallon shop vac (stored in a storage
locker in MN) to vac and blow out the 3 toe heaters in the coach, and also to
vac the car while we were in MN. Late last summer we had some ceramic tile
repairs done in the bath hallway and I had overlooked the clean-up job B4
leaving MN for TX. Hence the problem with the hallway toe heater. I wanted to
downsize the vac anyway so I finally justified buying one of these new portable
ones. Works wonderful and the toe heater is working just like it should. I can
confirm that the amber lite is a warning lite and that you should shut them down
immediately or risk a fire. We were lucky once again.
Thanks again for all your input. Don't know how we could survive without this
forum.

Ron: If your heaters are Cadet Model TK 101, you should consider getting rid of
them. There was a recall a few years back because they are fire hazards.
Replacing them with the model recommended on the Cadet Mfg. Co. website is an
easy fix. In fact so easy, even a lawyer could do it.
On my toe heaters I installed a male and female 20 amp 110v plug about a foot
behind the heaters after cutting the romex. It makes pulling the unit out,
taking it outside and blowing it out with compressed air a 10 minute chore
instead of marriage stressing, messy job inside the bus.
