The generator quit on me the other day. The fuel filters were due to be changes
so I went ahead and changed them. I noticed the out fitting on the primary
filter was wet and leaking (could this be the cause of the shutdown?). I started
to remove the line from the fitting and fuel started to flow out(I had a bucket
underneath). Do I have to drain the fuel tank to remove that hose? Is there a
shut-off from the main tank?
Of course I filled it coming home from Q.. There is not room to do anything
w/out removing said hose.
The fuel did not drain while I was changing the filter. Don't understand
that.

You got air into the system and lost your prime. Your genset shut down because
it began sucking air and that is indicated by your lack of fuel being in the
filter.

The generator shutdown I understand. What I'm asking for guidance on is how to
change a leaking fitting in the generator primary fuel filter without having to
drain the fuel tank. It is almost full.
Incidentaly, both filters were full of fuel when I removed them.

I am not aware of a shutoff. If the line is a flexible hose line, then I would
take some vice grips and close off the line. Just be carefull not to damage the
line in the process.
