So, my sewer paddles are having a hard time going back in to the "locked"
position on my 85 PT40. What parts to I really need to replace to fix this? I
thought about ordering the entire assembly so I know they are good. But, a
quick look at my current plumbing tells me it will require quite a bit of work
and I don't want to create more problems.

Thanks in advance.

Jerry,
Sounds like the paddles at the bottom of the ram. They hold back the sewer flow. The seals can get out of alignment after many years use. Contact Stephen Burtles, Dupree Products. He sells the dump paddles. There are two screws that hold the dump unit in place. They can be seen looking in through the door. Remove the two screws and the entire unit will come out (hopefully the paddle too). A less than empty tank can make this a Sh}{y job. Don't ask me how I know!

The paddles unscrews from the unit shaft. Screw on the new one and reinstall. Use silicone around the unit upper edge and seal.

Curt,
Thanks. That sure sounds much simpler. I fully believe this will be a crappy job even if the tank "seems" to be empty. But, it has to be done.
BTW, I bought that $75 back-up camera you spoke of and I finally installed it. I actually did mount it to the license plate rather than look for another spot. I also ran the wiring over the heat shield plate, into the bed compartment and mounted the antenna about 3/4 of the way down the forwardbed frame. I used double sided tape (the kind that allows you peel it back off) and pressed the monitorto glass of the oldmonitor in the overhead. I installed a 12v outlet in the overhead to plug the cord into and ran the cord just outside the edge of the tv monitor panel. To power the camera I connected the hot lead to the parking lights at the taillights. I didn't want it to come on only when in reverse so I thought the easiest thing to do was hook it to the parking lights - that way I can have the camera on whenever I choose just by turning on the parking lights.
Surprisingly, the picture is crystal clear and the signal comes through just fine. Somehow, I thought the signal strenght wasn't good for more than 10 feet or so but this antenna placement/monitor placement works beautifully!
Thanks for the tip - I'm happy that I don't have to go through the pain (or expense) of replacing the original camera or monitor. I haven't tried it out down the road but parked it works wonderful.

Jerry,
Glad the back-up camera worked. Good job wiring/controlling the unit.
