what would be better? a 391 ford industrial or cat3802? still looking to buy a
bird and need to get a feel on what engine is better. pro's an con's will be
helpful. thanks all.

no pros, I think they both do the job intended and there is little difference
between 25 mph climb and 20 mph climb. The in motion Satellite was invented by a
guy with an FC. I know of a gasser in Orange county 'no smoking','no domestic
pets'

I feel the cat is a much better engine, I feel the 391 is underpowered

I like my 3208.  Despite the fact that some folks consider them "throwaway" diesels because they aren't lined.

Sure, it's underpowered for the bus, but it's got me up over a mile of 22+% grade, albeit at 9mph or so Smile

We got a good solid 8.9mpg on my last long (5000+ mile) trip out to Arizona and back.  For a 35ft 27000lb bus, that seems pretty respectable.

Dorn, you came all the way out to Arizona and didn't stop by to say "Hi"??? hee
hee hee

Diesel over Gas ANYDAY! I have both a '63 Bluebird conversion and my '78
Wanderlodge. The '63 conversion came with the GMC401 v6 gas industrial engine.
I will admit, it was as powerful as the na3208 CAT engine is. BUT, it also had
points, plugs, plug wires, carburater, and if it sat too long would get gummed
up. The diesel can sit for years and then start on the 2nd crank! The 3208 CAT
is rebuild just like a normal gas engine, you bore it out and put in new rings.

Oh Geez.. forgot the best part!

78FC35 3208 CAT = 7-8mpg
63FC35 401 GMC = 4-5mpg

That alone sold me!

My apologies, it was a take-the-kids-to-visit-the-in-laws-over-the-holidays trip with a crazed schedule, 5000 miles in 10 days including stops Smile

I am definitely a diesel fan.  My 77FC35, a 99F350 7.3l diesel, a 2002 Jetta TDI, a 2004 Jetta TDI, a 2003 Kubota diesel tractor, 2001 Kubota diesel excavator and a huge old single cylinder stationary diesel from India for a tinkering project. The only things I own with gas engines are a lawnmower and a wheedwhacker and a chainsaw, and I would probably have those in diesel if it had been an option Smile
