Pete,

Mexico is a large place. Be a bit more specific as to where you are
planing to go. If just into the border towns or down into Baja, or
into the interior of Mexico. Different rules and situations. Get the
book on Mexico by the Church's. It has some of the best information.

A couple of comments on a trip to Mexico.....Baja might as well be a part
of US California....you can eat and drink anything. It is more US than
Mexico.

Mainland is a whole different story. You watch what you eat and drink, and at
the same time, watch your back....

There are a lot of areas that I will not take Lynn; just to
dangerous. Places that
I spent a lot of time in my youth, I would not repeat the trip. Be careful.

Yaah Blair:
Some parts are bad, and anything within 100 miles of the boarder is
not "Real MEXICO".
A big difference is that the US operates under British Common Law,
while Mexico is under the Nepolanic Code. You are Guilty untill you
prove yourself innocent! (Like our Traffiic court or an IRS audit!!)
About 15 years ago, I spent a month each year for 2 years running in
Cuernavaca. I lived with a Mexican family. Found it a great
experience, and when we married we spent a 2 week guided visit to
Oaxaca, and then traveled for another 2 weeks around 'The Colonial
Loop'. We had fun, and at no time had any trouble. We were moderatly
careful what and where we ate, so we missed meeting with Senior
Montezuma. Outside of the "Tour" to Oaxaca, we made no reservations,
and used the Bus lines and Taxis. (be careful of these)!
Another time was 2 weeks in Chapala, with a stopover in PV on the way
home, were also without incident.
Baja is good, but I have been stopped a couple of times by the
Policia. I talked the 'fines' down to a $20 bill and we were on our way.
We have been down to Guerreo Negro a couple of times to see the Whales
at Scammons Lagoon, and numerous times to Ensanada/Roserita Beach.
Beware of San Filepe at Spring Break!! Damn Gringos are all over on
those Quads, one hand on the gas, and a Corona in the other.
Yes, Mexico is good, but you must use common sense, and realize that
you are a Guest in another country!!
(If you even THINK about those funny ciceraetts, you deserve to see
the Tiajuana Jail, Stupid!!!)
But if I were to take the Bird down Baja, I would definatly go with an
organized caravan.
The laws on taking a vehicle into Baja and taking it into the Mainland
are very different!!
DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT DRIVING IN MEXICO WITHOUT MEXICAN INSURANCE!!!

We had the idea of visiting a sick friend in San Antonio and then
going for just a few days across the Texas border. I may rethink
the trip especially with the bird.
