Which way do the struts on the interior cabinets face? The housing
up or down, or does it matter?

All of mine have the cylinder uppermost. That is, the wide part is attached to
the door, the slender end to the cabinet frame.

When I changed the star-wheel supports to gas struts I accidentally put most of
them in one way and a few the other way. Doesn't seem to make any difference on
our coach.

The fat part of the tube needs to be on the top. This keeps the fluid against the seals and keeps them lubricated and keeps the gas in the sealed part of the tub.. Mounted with the fat side down will work but you will have premature failure when they will become weak. I read this on one of the manufactures sites. Up till then I wondered the same thing
