I think the "3" number is a bit of a stretch. In the 3+ years I've inhabited the various BB owner's lists, I've seen reports of 'birds being "parted out" that at least 4 or 5 havesuccumbedto that fate that have been mentioned online.
However, due to the long life and general ruggedness of the 'birds, I'm sure that the number still in operating condition is in the 95-98% bracket. Assuming that the number of 4000+ Wanderlodges were built, that would leave at least 3800 to 3900 on the road and assume that up to a couple hundred may be "non op" or otherwise out of service.

If 3 is the number then I saw 2 of them on vacation in Maryland and or Pennsylvania. Both were in a field with weeds growing out of them, One was really sorry looking the other was "pink" and up by the fence along the road. Wish that I had pictures and would put those up for a spread.

In the early 1990's factory personel told me that "All but 3" Wanderlodges were still on the road. I'll bet that, even today, the percentage still around is around 98%.

Birds on the road? I'd go with a lower number 70%
I would agree with the 3% dead birds.
The remaining 27% Broken for whatever reason, most repairable.
You can invert all these numbers by factoring in $5 a gallon Fuel Pandemic !
Plus or minus 33% for personal opinions will effect what is or is not considered
road worthy.
