Last year on our first trip with our PT40 I had a few small leaks from the
windshield.
They are at the top of the window, both pilot and copilot sides.
It looks like there is some goop on the outside that someone tried to fix them
before, but it didnt work.

I had a window shop come out to look at it hoping they could remove the molding
and reinstall it with some sealer but they declined to work on it. Where afraid
to remove the molding and/or window and end up breaking them.

So, I still have a leak that I need to fix before the next trip.

Any hints on how to fix it?

I had figured to pull the zipper strip, flex up the molding and put some sealer
in, then reinstall the zip strip...
That a good idea?

Thanks, Joe

Joe:

That is doable, though often times the leaks are between the gasket and
metal edging. Contact a local school bus repair shop, if any and see if
they have a back up windshield, both sides, and a new gasket. If so then
you have many options to cheese from. I was lucky in my '84 FC, the zip
strip out sealer and re apply the zip strip worked,

Joe:

I picked up an off the shelf sealer at a Napa store that fit the gun I
had. I also did prep work by shooting alcohol under there first then with
a "slim jim" door tool (thin metal) I tried to be sure the
alcohol went in as far as it could go and to be sure it had dissipated I
waited for 48 hours before going in under the tight rubber gasket with
the tip of the sealer and gun. Then I used a caulk removal edging tool to
remove the excess that squeezed out and the sealant formed a cove type
dam.

Did I do it right?? I don't know, am not up on glass installs really. But
I do know I had no more leak.
