For 10+ years I have been a bird owner. Close to 9 of those years a forum owner
and co- owner. In that time since starting the forums we have helped a lot of
folks.
For 37 years I have been in the flooring business. It has come to the time when
I need your help. I need work. Period.
I would rather not my signature read-

Ernie,

While I can’t offer you flooring work, I could potentially
employ you as a campground host in Colorado.

If interested, please let me know.

Best regards,

Capitalize on your assets. Your product has little definition. Use a photobucket
album to reach customers and directive customers (folks you direct to your
photos thru print media). Photobucket does not require a sign in or registration
account (here you only reach a bunch of Yahoo's ).

BobL recently posted repairs with costs. Like he noted for some reason folks
don't like to talk money or cost or give all the information. His post was
complete and respected. then there was a note about a sale of a bus with no
price. Why not answer unasked questions. Assumptions and hearsay lead to
confusion, purchase fear, overpricing and room for the existence of a non
productive middle man. be different and give exact prices of completed projects.
The internet is 'full disclosure' and the new generation is more informed on
exact pricing and cost. People understand that ;your price over your cost is not
profit but payment for labor. there is little room for the old school thinking
when the money of today is held by the kids graduating from the new school.

I bet you will capture more business with complete detail disclosure in your
description then business lost because you were not given the chance to first
tapdance on a customers old shag rugs.

Get away from the defeated crowd that find comfort in an association of
craftsmen with like finances. (in Romoland they gather at Pinky's tap room,
ironic that its a straight bar)

"The market is existent". The middle man that in the past lead you to water is
gone. Give his fee to the enduser. Capture the customer base left unsatisfied
by the flooring craftman at Pinky's that believe the Flooring market is non
existent.

I don't know how to market Flooring but I do know there is a need for your
product and members here proclaim you to be top notch in your craft. I would
offer you good luck but that has nothing to do with success. Maybe someone here
could help with graphics and a Marketing plan. If you need a hole dug give me a
call, for that I am expert

Gary,

That was a very thoughtful offer, you must be a sensitive generous person.

Ernie, is there any way to take your show on the road? I bet there are people
willing to pay extra to cover your fuel and food, in order to have work done in
their driveway.

Folks, I can tell you, if you need Bird flooring done, call this guy. He does
amazing work. All those angles! I will let him quote his charges directly to
you of course, but I can say I picked up a 12'x15' remnant for $40. Yep, it had
some holes in it from an errant forklift, but Ernie cut around them made it
work. This quantity covered the front area under the two front chairs, the
bedroom, one side covering the Primus run, and enough left over (barely) for a
matching dash cover. And for me he also did new industrial rubber at the entry
steps. Guys, I know shag is the "original" Bluebird and we want to stay true to
the heritage, but you wouldn't believe how dirty most of your carpets are until
you remove it. And get some bamboo/oak/tile down in the salon/kit/bath areas,
and you won't regret it.

Good luck Ernie.

Ernie: I too think that if people are not coming to you then go to them. Are
you aware of the # of snowbirds in AZ. in the winter? I would imagine you could
find enough work in Mesa/ Tucson/ Apache/ etc. to keep you hopping all winter.
Especially if some us put in a good word in some other than BB forums. It is
hard to find a quality installer who knows RV's.

Hi Bruce, thank you for the thought. Rick Archie invited me to Q this past Jan. I said that would be good, BUT, it would be impossible for me to carry every kind of material for any job. If --the big 2 letter word- I had a large trailer, then hauling materials would be no problem. I might put the word out on several forums, that this coming Q I would be available and that clients would have to bring their carpet or wood with them.
Since my coming home from Montana in Oct and with my business having tanked since last Aug, my trip for the 09 Q was impossible. Who knows what will happen in the furture?

Hi Ernie,
May I suggest that you contact the Small Business Administration (SBA)in
Dallas-Ft.Worth area.
They have retired people that have years of experience in all disciplines
(Marketing, Sales, etc). They volunteer their time to help you and it's all for
FREE!
Their whole purpose is to help the business owner or wannabe owner get started
or help them get grants, etc from the gov. to expand their business or get
started.
Just a thought.
