Thinking of running up the coast to SF . Any good camping on the ocean side
close to San Francisco??? Thanks in advance..

Hi Mario,
A few years ago, we stayed at the "San Francisco RV Park" in Pacifica.
Basically, a large paved parking area- but it was really close to everything.
See if they have sites "away from the cliff". It's really windy near the cliff
and if a big tremor comes, you'll be in the drink.
Missed you at Quartzsite this year- hope you can make it again next January!

Expensive parking lots is all...
S.F. RV Resort, 700 Palmetto Ave., Pacifica, CA (just across the county line from S.F.) It's a paved lot with rather narrow spaces. Many spaces limited to shorter coaches. They claim a maximum 40' for some spaces. Prices range up past $70 per night for "premium" spaces. No prices shown in online listings.
Ocean view. "Path" down to the water's edge -- but it's a long, steep climb. I didn't actually see the path, but the campground is on a cliff overlooking a narrow beach.
A little further south, in Half Moon Bay, there is the choice of California State Beach (not too expensive) but it might be hard to get in, depending on the time of year. See the California State Parks web site. I camped there as a boy scout more years ago than I care to remember. It's a decent state park.
Half Moon Bay also has Pelican Point RV Park and Pillar Point Harbor RV Park.
Personally, I'd rather stay a little further down the coast at Half Moon Bay rather than at the closer-in Pacifica area. The weather's better, too. (Pacifica is directly in the fog belt that famously cools San Francisco. I've had friends who lived in Pacifica -- and moved because they became depressed from the foggy weather.) Don't fear, Half Moon Bay is considered within commute range of San Francisco.
There are several parks in South San Francisco near the bay and one at Candlestick Point (the 49er's stadium). Candlestick is OK, but the immediate surrounding neighborhood is somewhat scary -- I'd avoid it.

As a native Californian, I can assure you that if a "big tremor" comes and collapses the cliff, it won't matter much where you're parked as we'll all be in a super-heap of trouble. It's extremely unlikely that a cliff would collapse in even a pretty significant earthquake. Don't count on the bridges, however...
The wind, however, is a fair comment. As a native to the area, I don't take much notice of the on-shore winds -- but they can be pretty annoying at times.
