Well, I finished my first big project on my 85 PT40. I installed a 20" flat
panel TV in the overhead above the gauges. I had been using the dash area up
front but didn't like having to move the TV every time I drove the coach. The
project was pretty straight forward. I started with having a metal frame
fabricated. I removed the overhead panel and removed the screen. I bolted the
metal framework in 5 places on the bottom and one on the top. I still have
airflow through the opening yet the TV is up and out of the way.
The whole project (less metal fabrication) took about 6 hours. It took a while
because of the cramped space to drill and the degree of difficulty getting all
the bolts in and torqued down. I also installed the DVD/VCR player in one of
the cabinets along with a DC powered 6 disc changer and DC powered Sirius radio
so I can use them without the generator. Of course, you have to empty out the
cabinets on both sides and remove all the panels to get to the wiring tracks. I
hooked the cable directly into the box in the overhead vice the jack on the
lower wall.
I'm not anticipating any issues. The metal frame was extremely sturdy and I
yanked tested it before hooking up the TV - it is quite solid. I suppose I'll
see how much (if any) shaking it does when I go down the road.
While it's not installed inside the cabinet (not enough room) it doesn't detract
from the coach too much and it's up out of the way. I'm going to try and post a
few pictures on the photo page.
FWIW, we full time in our coach and it's nice to have the TV out of the way now.
