I have a perkins/kohler 12.5 gen set and I have now started looking at
my inop gen set instruments in ernest. I was pointed (by a member of
the forum THANKS) to the teleflex site with their instructions on
installing and troubleshooting the instruments (hour meter, oil
pressure, Water temp).
I have printed and read these. I then pulled the instruments out of
the panel and started checking according to their directions. First
off I was not having the indications on the gauge that they said I
should have if the instrument was working properly. My needles are
laying to the right with no life at all. I then began to check voltage
on the power lines to each instrument. I was unsure if they got their
power from the gen battery or the coach battery. Therefore I checked
with the gen battery disconnected first, then with it connected. I got
no voltage either time on any of the three instruments. Not sure why
but I then started the gen set and checked the voltage. at this time I
got 57.8, 58, and 58.2 DC volts when connected to the power wire and
ground wire. I should also note that the volt meter on the gen battery
works properly and is indicating approx. 12.5 volts with the battery
connected.
I am not an electrician and know a minimal amount about this subject,
but I do know how to read a volt meter and this sounds crazy high to me.
Help from anyone with knowledge in this area would be greatly
appreciated. I would also be interested in a diagram showing how the
instruments are wired if anybody has one.
THANKS again for your help.
