John

I need the part number for the coolant thermostat used in the Perkins
genset engine, on a '82 Wanderlodge. I called the local parts stores
and got the standard question, What car does that go on? According to
the Perkins manual it starts to open at 175-182 and is fully open at
200-205.

John,
I took mine to a NAPA store and they "matched it up".
It looks like a V8 chevy thermostat, pretty standard and
common.
I had my wife look up the invoice and it lists the thermostat
part number as "170", although it was stamped 180....
I took the thermostat housing also to match up a gasket
and their gasket number was 1038-ST.
Hope this helps.

John

Thanks George,

According to the Perkins manual, the thermostat starts to open at 175-
182 and is fully open at 200-205, so that 170 number may represent
when it starts to open.

I talked to the parts man at the Perkins dealer in Charleston and he
said there were two listed one vented and the other unvented, I'm not
familiar with the difference and it almost seems like he was looking
at radiator caps instead of thermostats.

What temperature does your genset get during hot days?

John,
The temp gauge on my generator stays just below 180
regardless of the outside temp. I've run it at temps in the teens
in the winter. I just changed the thermostat
in November, so I haven't had it in real hot weather yet. I
don't expect it will deviate, based on what it did last summer
with a stuck thermostat.
