mom and I are still in Q where the circle has shrunk to 3...
been too lazy and warm to move yet.
anyway, replaced the genset battery which I knew was failing after 8
or more years. voltage meter on dash still reads low black/striped
to nearly red. A voltage reading at the new battery reads about 12.6
to 12.8
The voltage numbers seem better if the cat is running. Why would the
cat charge the genny better than the genset running?
Probably another of those duh moments but the voltage gage on the
dash has always been up better.

It's like I told folks here, were it not for these great forums I
would have never had the courage to keep and use JP'S White Bird. It
has absolutely given my mum and myself a new direction!

RoseMary, Gen sets have many diff setups to charge the batteries and
owners have modified even the factory setups
1- some gensets are charged off the genhead that makes the 120
volts. there is a 12/14 volt output off the genhead.
2- some have an automotive type alt driven off the generators Motor
via a belt. .
3- still some are charged off the housebattteries and 120V
chargers/converters.
4- who knows what mods were done to the configuration on your bus.
and how it is charged now

Hi Rosemary,
It was great meeting you and "mom" at the Q Rally. We are missing the
big fires and warm weather here in the Northeast. I used to have the
same problem with the genny battery- turns out that it was the
isolating diode that BBird used in most of the mid-80's coaches that
failed. Yours is probably near the battery bank under the driver's
seat. It will not allow voltage to flow back to the genset battery
when the chargers are on. You will have to most likely replace it with
a new battery isolator or better yet, a Battery Link ACR from Blue Sea
Systems. This should allow the genny battery to get a much better
charge and keep you from having to replace it every few years. If you
can not do the job yourself, I'm sure that a camping world could
install a new isolator for you. If you plan to attend any rallies out
east this spring or are going to the one in OshKosh, I'd be glad to
install one for you.
