Hi, all Richard here from Decatur Il. Was on a small trip after new
tire, new oil, things checked out underneath, got to Missouir an turned
coach off, wouldn't start again. The ignition switch would turn on
Acc. but as I turn it to the start, nothing. This happen to me before
an turning the key back an froth a few times an the ignition would
catch an start, not this time, haad to jump across the starter on the
engine, it started right up.Took the ignition out the keys works loose
in it, so thinking it this ignition switch, can't find one it is --
Pollak-31-158-100, can't tell you if its the original switch, I would
say no. Any ideas?

A good Napa will have a book where you can see pics of the ignition
saddle. I was 'unable' to match up one on my 94. I found an
international harverster unit that was close enough to keep as a
back up and just cleaned up the one I intended to replace. turned
out the ign swith was not the problem anyway. LeroyE posted that he
has issues such as you describe and must go to the rear ignition
location and switch the selector back and forth??

If the 89 is as the 94 circuits are, keep in mind The key cues a
relay which sends fused 12V to the big starter solenoid. If the
fused relay has a self resetting fuse (silver box) that could be the
intermiting prob. as some fuses are used for several functions. it
could also be a ground to that relay.

If you have an early Ddec computer you may want to be careful
jumping the starter. I burnt up a N14Cumins computer doing the same.
turns out to be common to blow them with bad starters, bad rebuild
starters, jumpstarting and solenoid starting.
