George, Having owned both a Magellan Roadmate and Garmin
Nuvi 350, my opinion is the Garmin hands down. It is
small enough to fit in your shirt pocket, works great
walking around downtown, good battery while not plugged in.
All units come with a learning curve, bit the Garmin was
more intuitive than the Magellan for me and my wife too.
We tried to get updates from Mag several times but they were
never available. The Garmin will remind you after a year to
check for updates. We just updated our Garmin and are ready to
for another year or two.
You didn't say whether you have a GPS now or not, but
they are like cell phones, you'll wonder what you ever did
before you had one.Happy shopping.
