I am looking for the battery isolator on my 1987 PT 36. Talking to
Shane about the charging system for the generator battery and he thinks
perhaps the isolator is bad. Gave me some direction as to how to check
it. He suggested it would be in the compartment where the generator fan
is or with the charger. I looked in both locations and can't seem to
identify it. Anyone have intimate knowledge on this one?

I never found an isolator on my 86. Instead, I have a solenoid, (one
of two that are located under the bus near the entrance step area),
The solenoid activates when my charger is on, shunting power to my
generator battery.

Hope this helps,

That might be why I can't find one. I don't think the battery for the
generator is being charged so perhaps there is a soleniod not
working. I need to get that fixed so that I can put the bus into my
storage spot. I am concerned that I will have starting problems and I
want to be certain that I can start the generator so that if needed I
can charge the house and engine start batteries (which on my coach
are one in the same). I want to but the bus under cover but I am
afraid to move it way from 110 until I am confident that it will
start. Any more information would be appreciated.

The wanderlodge.org archives has a writeup on a similar problem
entitled "Generator Battery Drain Problem". In it, Ralph F. suggests
that the isolator (for a 1986 38' PT) should be on the curb side
behind the rear louvered panel. And should be inside the boxed in area
were the Rediline is and mounted on the rear support there.

If you don't find it you could disconnect the battery if it is charged up & it shouldn't run down. I have left car battery's disconnected all winter without them running down
