Has anyone replaced the tv monitor for the back-up camera on an 85 PT40? My
tv/monitor seems very worn out, heavy and needs to be replaced. Of course, I
would like to do it as economically as possible. Also, do I have to replace all
the cables or will the existing cables work with new systems. I realize I might
have to replace the camera as well.

Thanks in advance.

Adapters are available so the existing cables in our coach could be used. I installed this backup camera CC25NV-B and the lens is a Fuji yv5x27r4bsa2L. The original backup monitor was replaced with a 7" LCD. I did not consider the using the TV (or replacing the TV) at that time and use it as the backup monitor.

I have a 1985 PT40 and had to replace my rear camera monitor above the windsheild. I went to Radio Shack andbought a small 12 volt black and white tv that fit behind the existing clear panel, I think it was a 5", I did this about 5 years ago and I think at that time I paid $79.00 for the tv.

Wayne,

How do you turn the tv off/on if it's behind the clear panel? Or, did you just
remove the clear panel?

Abovethe drivers head on the left is the pull out on/off knob for the old tv/monitor and the old tv chassis, I removed the old aluminum box that contained the old chassis and cut the wires to that pull out tv on/off knob.
Then I took the 12 volt wires that I was running to power the new Radio Schack tv andcut one of them (the power wire) and soldered the ends to the terminals on the back of that existing switch, now that old switch turns the new tv monitor on and off.If you can find the 12 volt wires that powered the old chassis you can use them and that way the original fuse or breaker thatprotected the old monitor will be protecting the new one.
Good Luck

Wayne,
Thanks for the update. That sure sounds like a good way to handle the old tv stuff.

When I bought our coach, the PO gave me a new system he got,(Rear View Safety
Model RVS-770613)but had not installed. Marked on the box is $399.00 not sure if
he paid that or not. However I went on line to see what I had, here is a link

http://rearviewsafety.com/content/blogsection/2/7/

This system sells for $199.00 on-line. Now I have yet to install this system or
try it, so I can't say how well it works. I can tell you that it seems to be
well made unit,(but that in it's self, don't mean much, till you turn it on).
When I get it installed or tested, I'll post more.

JR,

I installed the identical system in our 83 FC about 1.5 years ago ($199) and It
works well.

Because I installed the camera behind the glass camera window, the IR lights
bounce off it in the dark and there is too much glare to see in the dark. If
you mount the camera externally, you will not have this problem. I am
considering mounting it outside, but I am reluctant to drill more holes. So
far, this is something I can live with. There may be a way to disconnect the IR
lights I have not researched this yet.
