Can anyone give me what a safe angle for a car tow hitch would be. By
this I mean the tow bar in relationship to the tow ball. Jon

I just found this article on the internet and I think it pretty well answered my
question.Blue Oxâs recommendation is that the receiver hitch of the motorhome
should never be more than 4 inches higher than the baseplate attachment points.
Four inches or less keeps the tow bar level with the ground or slightly angled
up towards the coach from the car. The tow bar should never be angled âupâ
towards the car from the coach. If an extension is added for say -Jon

Jon,
If using a ball hitch it should be dead level. If using a receiver
hitch versus ball, then the 4" max applies.

Thanks Dan, I'm going to take it back to where I had the bracket manufactured
and have them reweld some brackets on the new manufactured brackets. Right now
its sitting at about 3 3/4" lower than the hitch on the motor home. I set up
the whole rig and that's what I came out with and when its done it should be
dead level. Thanks for the information. Jon

Dan,
What difference would it make if your using a reciever type hitch or a
stationary mounted hitch?
The idea is to have no more than a 4" height difference from one end of the tow
bar to the other.

The difference is the manufacturer's recommendation, and the forces
on the ball-socket joint and hitch ball.

Here's my thought process:
If he is using a ball hitch on the bird, and the tow bar connects
onto the ball, it is not as stable or reliable/rigid as a receiver
tow bar. (the hitch could seperate from the ball more easily if at
an angle and given stress). From various readings on tow sites
(such as blue ox), a ball mount tow bar must be level at the initial
part of the tow bar connected onto the ball. I may not be
explaining this well, but checking blue ox ball mount hitch
documentation, and receiver hitch documentation will better explain
it.
