Here is an odd question for you FC owners. I have noticed (I think)
that the engine in my bus seems to be a little louder from time to
time. I've tried to see if I could determine a particular time or
situation which causes this and have not been able to do so. Obviously
the harder you push the engine the more sound you get. I am talking
about the sound just at idle. Perhaps this is all in my head but I was
riding a friend around and he noticed at one point and commented that
he thought the engine sounded louder. As stated can't localize to
conditions. His comment prompted me to ask if other have experience
this.

When I had the FC and heard that noise the first time I was baffled. Very soon I realized that it was the radiator fan cycling, even at idle.

John just a guess but would the increased sound coincide with the fan cycling on and off?

Well, I have never noticed the fan cycling on and off and to be
honest with you I didn't know that it did. Hummmm. Learning all the
time. The engine just sounds louder at times.

John,
turn on the fan override switch, see if tha is the sound.
I am always happy when my engine makes a sound! so much better than it not making a sound!

If there is a fan overide switch that would be news to me. Remember
this old girl was a gasser and converted to 3208 NA. Maybe it
doesn't have a fan clutch? I'll have to check into this. The bus
never seems to run hot and so I don't know if the fan has ever come
on, or it may cycle and I don't hear it? Like I said, learning all
the time.

John,

Is it possible that your hearing when the compressor is actually
pumping or not? Just a thought.

It may have a viscous type fan no fan override no switch
it still cycles when the temp increases the fan engages or locks up
